Education

Educational Visits with students in Cayman BracOur new education program is off to a good start! We have had great success with our new educational visits a various schools and libraries around the island. These programs discuss how to interact with and care for companion animals, dogs and cats in particular. We are now taking it to the next level and passing on this program to students in Cayman Brac.

Our goal is to educate the general public about the proper care and treatment of companion animals. We are currently focusing on the younger members of the community and want to “groom” responsible pet owners for the future by educating them about the proper care, handling and maintenance of companion animals. It is well known that children between the ages of 9-12 are the most receptive to new ideas and information. We are intent on giving each child a sense of responsibility for their pets and those of the community and we believe this will give the animals a better quality of life in the end.

We are in the process of organizing a Kids Club, where children can visit the shelter and learn how to properly play with and take care of animals. We have recently completed a puppy play area behind the shelter, which is completely enclosed. We hope that along with enjoying supervised animal interaction, children will learn responsible pet ownership.

If your school or organization would like to organize an educational session, either at a school, community centre or at the shelter, please contact us at 949-1461. We’d appreciate details about the age and number of students.
